The Sale of Cats & Dogs

The ruling on the buying and selling of cats and dogs, sourced from AbuKhadeejah.com

The origin with respect to the sale or price of cats and dogs is that it is forbidden. There occurs in the hadeeth reported in Saheeh Muslim from Abuz-Zubair who said: I asked Jaabir regarding the price of a dog and cat. He replied:

"The Prophet (salallaahu 'alaihi wassallam) sternly prohibited it." (1569)

This was stated also by Abu Hurairah, Jaabir bin Abdillaah and others. And it was the Madh-hab of Taawoos, Mujaahid and all the Dhaahirees. It concurs with one of the reports from Imaam Ahmad and was the preferred position of Ibnul-Qayyim and Ibn Hazm. The Arabic term "Zajr" used in the hadeeth indicates a strong prohibition, not that it is merely disliked.

The exception to the forbiddance of buying and selling dogs is the trained hunting dog as occurs in the hadeeth of Abu Hurairah who said:

"Allaah's Messenger (salallaahu alaihi wassallam) forbade the price paid for a dog except the hunting dog." — Reported by at-Tirmidhee (1281), declared Hasan by al-Albaanee as occurs in Saheeh al-Jaami'.

Ruling of One Who Doesn't Fast in Ramadan

The ruling on the one who does not fast in the blessed month of Ramadan

A person who misses his fast out of negligence or laziness has committed a major sin, but he is not a disbeliever and is still in the fold of Islam. He must repent and make up for what he has missed.

However, the one who abandons fasting in Ramadan because he is rejecting its obligation is an unbeliever, unless he does not have knowledge or doesn't know about its obligation, then they are not accountable — and as for those with knowledge, then they are considered as disbelievers by the scholars.

Those Who Abandon Their Prayer

A serious warning concerning the one who abandons the Salāh

The one who abandons his prayer is in great danger. Allah said in Surah Maryam [59]:

"But then, there came after them those who gave up the Prayers (Salāt) and they followed their lusts. So they will be thrown in Hell."

This Ayah shows the great danger of abandoning the prayer and also speaks about how the one who does so will be thrown into the Hellfire.

Another Ayah pertaining to this is in Surah Mudathir:

"What has caused you to enter Hell?" They will say: "We were not of those who used to offer the Salāh."

Here is another proof pertaining to this affair.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"The covenant (difference) between us and them (the non-muslim) is the prayer, so whoever abandons it has disbelieved." — (At-Tirmidhi, no. 2621)
